Air Conditioner Repairs

Whether you have been religious about your AC maintenance or not, mechanical equipment is unpredictable. Any equipment with moving components is prone to wear and tear and with that, degradation. At some point in the lifespan of your AC, you will need your air conditioner repaired.

Our Repairs – Reliable, Durable, and Honest

The technical team at Absolute Heat & Air is efficient at carrying out repairs that are both reliable and affordable. Our service and repair team is quick to respond to your cries for help, providing a troubleshooting service that allows us to locate the problem area with speed and efficiency. We source the spare parts and provide affordable rates that are given upfront. You only pay what we quote, nothing more. Your satisfaction is guaranteed on every repair. Your air conditioner will thank you!

Emergencies – Unavoidable

Doesn’t your air conditioner always decide to pack up at a time that is most inconvenient — the dead of night, the hottest day of the year, holidays? Breakdowns and repairs can be frustrating especially when you know how meticulous you have been about your maintenance regime. At Absolute Heat & Air we provide a 24/7 emergency service for all our customers. Our team is available all day, every day, to attend to your equipment. Call us day or night, weekdays or weeknights and holidays, we are always on call.

Enhance – Equipment Performance

Contact Absolute Heat & Air for high-quality air conditioning repair in Gainesville, TX & Northwest Arkansas. Our repairs will enhance and improve the performance of your equipment. If we feel that repairs are not called for, or will have no beneficial effects on your equipment, we’ll tell you so. Honesty is our way of providing you with the most beneficial service around.

Air Conditioner Installation

While living in Gainesville TX or Northwest Arkansas, you’re aware of the scorching heat that can accompany the summer months. AC installation in these conditions is somewhat of a necessity, rather than a luxury. Of course, the costs that come with such an installation warrant a proper investigation into equipment on the market. If you want to gain all the benefits from this purchase, the staff at Absolute Heat & Air are the friendly faces you want on your side.

AC replacement is not a small task, but it doesn’t have to be traumatic, costly, or disruptive. When you install your AC the expected lifespan is already predetermined and as that time draws near, you’ll notice certain things may go wrong with your equipment. The efficiency of the system might dwindle, your utility costs may begin to rise, strange sounds or odors may become noticeable. All these factors may point to the time for a replacement. You may not notice any of this, rather you’d experience the more regular need for repairs. Absolute Heat & Air are the contractors to call when you suspect deterioration of your equipment. We are the company you can trust with AC management and we have been providing efficient, excellent service for years.

The Company – Licensed and Renowned

Your AC system is only as good and efficient as the team providing the initial installation service and of course, the equipment being put in place. Our team is aware of the importance of completing the installation the right way from the beginning. You deserve to see and feel value for your money. Being a fully-licensed company with over 10 years experience and expertise in the trade, we know what our customers need and what they expect from us, as service providers. We run a team of NATE-certified technicians, catering to your air conditioning needs.

Versatile and Reliable

Our installations are carried out from start to finish, with complete professionalism and attention to detail. We work with the efficiency and cleanliness that your home and family deserve. We take extra precautions when working around your possessions, leaving nothing in harm’s way. Our team is proficient at completing installations on all makes and models of equipment with equal excellence. We understand that you rely on your air conditioner to provide the clean, cool, and safe environment during those hot months of the year.

New Installation vs. Replacement

There are endless benefits that accompany an air conditioner installation. As the years fly by, the life expectancy of your equipment will near its end. A replacement of the unit will be necessary to maintain efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The unit must be replaced, usually with a more modern version that is more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. Although, if your old equipment is well cared for and maintained, the need for a new network of ducting may be eliminated. When it comes to replacements, repurposing the ducting is where the savings take place. Allow our technical team at Absolute Heat & Air to visit you today to evaluate the condition of your ducting and see how best we can accommodate you with a replacement if required.

Maintenance & Tune-up

Once your installation is complete, your technician will remind you of the importance of AC maintenance for efficiency and longevity of your equipment. This advice should be taken with the greatest care. Owning an HVAC system comes with responsibility if you are to get the service you wish from the equipment.

Very similar in nature to preventive or corrective maintenance, a tune-up is in place to keep your system running with smooth efficiency. As your system begins to age, you may find that the period between the regular maintenance services is far too long, and deterioration in performance begins to show long before the time. An AC tune-up is the perfect way to keep that system working until the maintenance service comes around.

Our Team of Technicians – Skilled, Experienced, and More Than Competent

Our technical team at Absolute Heat & Air will amaze you with our knowledge, care, professionalism, and expertise. We are aware of the impact effective maintenance will have in assisting your unit to last the expected lifespan. Our technical experience has grown with our team over the years, allowing us to have a broad spectrum from which to draw information. There is no obstacle that can prevent us from completing your work with ease.

Maintenance Plans – Affordable and Convenient

Absolute Heat & Air provides maintenance plans for your convenience. This affordable, convenient approach to maintenance will ensure that you always have an AC that is working efficiently, providing you with cool air every time you turn the dial to on. We take on the responsibility, leaving you free to enjoy the benefits.

Air Conditioner Tune-Up – Mini-Maintenance

The goals of the tune-up are in line with those of the air conditioner maintenance service. The older your air conditioning equipment gets, the more attention it will require to maintain an efficient operation. Waiting for your next air conditioner maintenance service may not be an option if you are trying to prevent unwanted breakdowns and costly repairs. Our team is on hand to provide you with this service. Aging mechanical equipment needs a little more care than new systems and we understand this completely. We attend to the regular maintenance issues and pay careful attention to areas that you are concerned with.

Unfortunately emergencies don’t work on a schedule, but we are completely aware of this. In fact, they seem to happen at times that are most inconvenient and where the effects are felt to the maximum. When your heating fails you in the wee hours of the morning or on the eve of the coldest day of the year, our team is standing by to provide you a friendly voice and a welcome hand of assistance. We provide repairs that won’t cost you a fortune and we don’t compromise on quality. We take pride in our work and take care of our customers.

Heating Installation

Does your heating seem to be less efficient, providing less warm air, making strange noises, or giving off odors that leave you reeling? Is your utility bill going uphill? If your heating system is nearing the end of its expected lifespan, chances are a heating replacement is required. As important as air conditioning may be in combating the intense heat, heating is equally important in preventing the effects of the winter months.

Our Team – Evaluation and Honest Advice

Our team at Absolute Heat & Air are adept at undertaking evaluations of your equipment. If you are experiencing any issues with your aging equipment, call us to investigate the problem and provide reasonable solutions. If your equipment is outdated, a replacement is usually the step needed. Our team will thoroughly investigate, evaluate, and provide you with feedback on their findings then offering steps to remedy the situation. If a repair will do the trick, we’ll recommend it, if not, we will opt for the replacement. Our aim is to save you money in the long-term.

Our technical team is attentive to the needs of our customers. We carry a wealth of experience. There is nothing that can get in the way of our team completing your heating installation without a hitch. Our technicians stay up to date on the latest trends in the market as well as the advancement in techniques and equipment. You are always left satisfied with the warm feeling we leave circulating your home.

Equipment – Performance Tested

We are more than capable of completing an installation of any make and model of equipment. Our installations are carried out using quality material that is guaranteed to last the duration of the lifespan of your equipment. Our workmanship is faultless. We provide you with the warm breeze you need to fight off the winter chill. We leave you with nothing less than the best there is to offer. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the satisfied and comfortable look on the faces of our customers.

Replacement – Equipment and Cost

When a replacement becomes necessary, we can offer you a reasonable and affordable solution while still providing modern, energy-efficient equipment. We carry out replacements of all makes and models. Whatever we decide on, rest assured that the highest quality results are always on the cards. The cost of a replacement, although not cheap, is far less than that of a new installation. The evaluation process is imperative in deciding whether or not the ducting is still in working order, or repairable. We offer honest, reliable advice designed to save you money in the long-term.

Maintenance & Tune-up

Maintenance on your heating system is non-negotiable if you want to continue to experience what your heating system is designed to provide. There are many reasons why your heating may require additional care and attention. You need to take note of the warning signs that your equipment might need some extra assistance: excessive use and an aging system, extended periods of inactivity — these are all valid reasons to consider a heating tune-up or heating maintenance.

The Company – Reputable and Reliable

We have been in business for over 10 years, providing quality service at an affordable price. Absolute Heat & Air is a fully licensed company offering your peace of mind. We have passed the necessary requirements and have the hours of experience under our belts. We’ve grown into a formidable adversary in the industry, proving our worth to our customers.

Ensure Your Heater’s Smooth Operation

Switching your heating on after such an extended period of inactivity could cause breakdown of the equipment. A tune-up will ensure that parts are lubricated and all in working order before you fire the system up. A heating tune-up is similar in nature to maintenance, where all the necessary parts of the equipment are checked for flaws or faults. The heating technicians will also take into account any of your voiced concerns.

Our technicians treat every maintenance and tune-up with the same care and respect. We understand the value of your equipment to your lifestyle and comfort. We strive to keep you warm throughout the winter months. Take care of the system that takes care of you.

Maintenance & Tune-ups – Why They’re Necessary

Your heating system is mechanical in nature. With the presence of moving components within the unit, wear and tear is definitely not avoidable. Keeping your system well lubricated and keeping degradation of moving parts under control, is the only way to prevent the event of a breakdown and the need for a heating repair. Our team takes pride and care in every maintenance procedure we carry out. We are honest and forthcoming about the work completed and our findings. Our systematic maintenance service ensures that your system is thoroughly checked over for anything that may become a problem in the future.

Just as regular maintenance is imperative to the function of your heating, there are many reasons why a tune-up may become necessary. The cold winter months warrant the use of your heating system all the time to maintain a comfortable living environment. Excessive use will put extra strain on the equipment, causing wear and tear at an accelerated rate. As parts become old, they become brittle, this can result in unexpected breakdowns if additional attention is not paid the system.

Replacing an air filter in a home vent

The Air You Breathe

Ducting is what carries the air from the unit to the rooms of your home. The air is drawn in from the outside where you can be sure there are pollutants, dust, mold, and allergens present. The air is passed through the filters, which if not regularly changed will not perform sufficiently. The air travels along the ducting, leaving behind any debris that settles. Just think: if you leave your heating & air conditioning system unattended and uncleaned, only so much debris can be deposited before it begins to be picked up then carried by the passing air. This is what enters your home and the lungs of your family members.

The EPA recommends having air ducts cleaned only as needed. That is, when there is substantial visible mold growth inside, if the ducts are infested with rodents or insects, or if they’re clogged with excessive amounts of debris. Studies show 6 out of 10 homes are hazardous to their occupants’ health. Every time your air conditioner or heating system is on, airborne contaminants are being drawn into your air vents.

Clean Air – The Benefits

Breathing is something that everybody does without thinking. If your home is filled with poor quality air your body will eventually feel the strain of trying to get the oxygen it needs. Your breaths will be shallow making you tire easily, putting tremendous stress on your organs. If your home is filled with good quality indoor air, you are able to take in deep breaths of air with ease, with little stress placed on your body and organs. It is easy to get in the oxygen required to sustain healthy living. Sleep is an important part of healthy living. Breathing in poor quality air while sleeping places as much stress on your body as if you were doing so whilst awake. You will wake up feeling exhausted, your body not rested enough to take on the day.

Reduce allergies, asthma, and bronchial ailments through the implementation and maintenance of good indoor air quality. By reducing the presence of airborne debris like pollen, mites, dust, and even mold, you help to prevent these ailments in your family members. We can evaluate your indoor air quality and provide you with advice on how to improve the situation. Make your appointment today, for the love and health of your family.

Duct Services
💨

Advanced duct cleaning for residential properties — so the air moving through your home starts out cleaner.

Why Duct Services Matter

Your ducts carry every breath of conditioned air from the unit to the rooms of your home. Over time dust, pollen, pet dander, and debris settle inside, and the next time the system runs some of it is picked back up and carried into the rooms where your family lives and sleeps.

Absolute Heat & Air cleans residential duct systems and tells you honestly what we find. Following EPA guidance, we recommend cleaning when it’s actually needed — not as an automatic upsell.

Signs Your Ducts May Need Attention

Visible mold growth inside the ducts or at the vents, evidence of rodents or insects, heavy dust blowing out of the registers, or ducts clogged with excessive debris. If you’re noticing more allergy symptoms at home, that’s another reason to have us take a look.

What to Expect

We inspect the system, show you what’s there, and explain whether cleaning will make a difference. If it will, we give you the price upfront before any work begins. If it won’t, we’ll say so.

Pair It with Better Air

Cleaner ducts work best alongside fresh filters and regular maintenance. Ask about our Indoor Air Quality services and our maintenance plans so the improvement lasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the questions we hear most from Northwest Arkansas and Northern Texas homeowners.

We proudly serve Northwest Arkansas from our Cave Springs location, including Springdale and the surrounding communities, as well as Northern Texas from our Gainesville location and parts of Oklahoma. Not sure if we cover your address? Call us in Arkansas at 479-437-7926 or in Texas at 940-276-2736 and we will let you know right away.

If your system is over 10–12 years old, needs frequent repairs, or struggles to keep up, replacement is often more cost-effective. If it is newer and the problem is a single failed part, a repair usually makes the most sense. Our diagnostic service finds the real problem first, so you can choose the right fix.

Yes. Financing is available on qualifying purchases. Visit our Financing page to apply with Wells Fargo or Synchrony and get pre-qualified.

Yes. Our Absolute Club Membership is just $24 and includes 2 maintenance tune-ups, a 25% repair & service discount, lifetime warranty repair, no overtime charges, front of line service, and 10% off a new system replacement. Learn more and request info.

Watch for a system that runs much longer than it used to, rooms that are too hot or too cold, weak airflow from the vents, unusual noises, frequent on-and-off cycling, or a rising energy bill. If you notice any of these, schedule a service call and we will take a look.

We recommend a professional tune-up twice a year: once in the spring for your air conditioner and once in the fall for your heating system. Regular maintenance helps catch small problems before they become expensive ones.

We install and service all makes and models. We are proud to be a Rheem Pro Partner, a certified Trane dealer and a Coleman Certified Expert, and we install Mitsubishi Electric ductless systems.

Uneven temperatures are commonly caused by leaky or poorly designed ductwork, dirty filters, weak airflow, or poor insulation around windows and doors. A professional inspection can pinpoint the cause, and zoned or ductless systems can fix problem rooms.

Dust, pollen, pet dander, and other particles circulate through your home every time your system runs. Clean filters and good air quality help you breathe easier, especially if you have allergies, and they keep your equipment running better.

Our licensed technicians arrive ready to listen, find the cause of the problem, and explain your options before any work begins. They wear shoe covers, treat your home with care, and clean up when the job is done. Every visit is backed by our 100% satisfaction guarantee.

Change your air filter regularly, keep vents unblocked, gently rinse the outdoor coil with a garden hose, seal leaky ducts, and schedule seasonal tune-ups. Upgrading to a modern high-efficiency system can lower your energy bills even more.

Who Framed Your HVAC? The Mystery Behind Your High Electricity Bill

When your electricity bill jumps, it’s easy to point the finger at your air conditioner. Especially in the middle of a brutal summer, when your AC has been working overtime to keep your home comfortable.

Luckily, there are a few ways to figure out if you’re running your system too hard or using too much electricity as you cool your home.

Much like our judicial system, your system is innocent until proven guilty. Before you put your HVAC on trial, there are a few suspects to consider when trying to solve the mystery of the expensive electricity bill.

The First Suspect: The HVAC System

Let’s start with the obvious one. Your air conditioner has probably been working overtime all summer. When outdoor temperatures climb, your system has to work harder and run longer to keep your home comfortable.

That alone can increase your electricity usage.

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ways to help your system run at peak efficiency. It may already be running hard, but dirty air filters, dusty outdoor coils, leaky ducts, or aging equipment can make the system work even harder.

Ensuring you’re changing that filter regularly, checking for leaks, and gently rinsing the outdoor coil with a garden hose to remove dirt and grass clippings (Don’t use a pressure washer: it could bend the delicate fins) are all great ways to keep everything running well on the homeowner side.

The Second Suspect: A Change in Electricity Rates

We live in a turbulent economic world. Prices are rising across the board: and electricity is no stranger to changing fees and rates. This could change the final amount that is owed at the end of the month.

It’s best to compare actual electricity usage, usually measured in kilowatt-hours, rather than just comparing the dollar amount from bill-to-bill.

If you used roughly the same amount, but the bill is far larger, your utility rate or other charges could be part of the story.

The Third Suspect: Changes in Habits

The third suspect is a surprisingly simple one: Maybe it was a change in electricity habits for a specific month. Maybe you spent more time cooking, running the dryer, or forgot to turn off lights several days in a row.

It also worth considering ‘phantom load.’ It’s also referred to as standby power and is the power many electronics continue to draw even when they appear to be turned off.

One TV probably isn’t going to make your electric bill explode, but add a gaming console, computer, speakers, chargers, and other electronics that stay plugged in 24/7, and those little draws start adding up fast, sipping up power and bringing that bill a little higher than usual.

The Fourth Suspect: The Water Heater

Electric water heaters can sneak up on you. More showers, more laundry, and more dishes can increase the energy consumption.

Meaning: a house full of guests, extra showers, or a mountain of sweaty summer clothes can all increase hot water usage.

If your household’s hot water usage increased, your water heater could be contributing to that higher bill.

The Fifth Suspect: Your House

Sometimes the problem doesn’t directly use an excess amount of electricity, but does sap it away, meaning your house itself could be the culprit.

Think of it this way: Your HVAC system can be doing everything right, but if cooled air is escaping through leaky ductwork or heat is sneaking in through poorly insulated windows or doors, your system has to work longer to maintain the temperature you set.

So: Is Your HVAC To Blame?

Maybe. Here are a few signs that your system deserves a closer look:

  • Your system is running much longer than it used to
  • Your home is not reaching the temperature on the thermostat
  • Some rooms are noticeably warmer or cooler than others
  • Airflow from your vents seems weak
  • You hear unusual noises coming from the system
  • Your energy usage increased along with changes in your HVAC’s performance
  • Your system is turning off and on more frequently than normal

If your electricity bill went up, but everything else about your HVAC system seems normal, there may be another explanation.

The important thing is to not assume.

A Higher Bill Does NOT Mean a Broken AC

Your electricity bill can act like a check-engine light in a car, and much like a check-engine light, it doesn’t tell you exactly what the problem is.

The point is: There are many reasons for your bills going up. The good news is you don’t have to guess.

If your energy usage has climbed and your HVAC system is showing signs it’s working harder than it should, it may be time to have a professional take a look.

The mystery may not be as exciting as a pulpy detective novel: but figuring out where your energy is going can save you money and help you catch small HVAC problems before they become much bigger ones.

So the next time your electricity bill makes you wonder why, remember: an HVAC system is innocent until proven guilty.

What The Pollen Season is Doing to Your HVAC

Every spring in our area, the world is painted yellow.

Most people think of pollen as an outdoor problem, but during peak allergy season, your sinuses won’t be the only thing fighting against pollen.

Your HVAC system could be too; And it could be making your allergies far worse.

How it works

Your heating and cooling system constantly pulls air through return vents, filters it, and redistributes it throughout the house.

Meaning: when pollen levels spike outside, tiny airborne particles can eventually make their way indoors.

This is especially true when doors are opening more often, windows crack open on cooler days, air filters haven’t been changed in a while, or you keep your shoes and ‘outside clothes’ on inside (it could track pollen and other items in!).

Your Air Filter Does More Work Than It Lets On

Air filters often get treated like an afterthought until someone notices weak airflow or higher utility bills. During pollen season, your filter becomes one of the hardest-working parts of your HVAC system.

It catches airborne particles before they circulate through your home and equipment.

Meaning dust, pet dander, dirt, and pollen all pass through that filter.

The problem is pollen can overwhelm a dirty or aging filter fast.

When airflow becomes restricted, your system has to work harder to move air through the house.

That extra strain can lead to longer cooling cycles, reduced efficiency, and additional wear on important components.

Allergies Can Feel Worse Indoors

While staying inside on a long and high-pollen day can keep you from experiencing some symptoms heavily, that doesn’t mean it will.

This is especially true if your filter is clogged!

If you add in dust buildup, humidity, and poor airflow, your home will quickly start feeling stale and will not function as a safe-haven from pollen.

This is the time of year fresh air is not only needed, but a requirement for those with respiratory illnesses and allergies.

The Hidden Costs of Ignoring Maintenance

Pollen itself is small. The average size of most allergy producing pollen is around 0.000039 inches!

According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, it would take around 25 thousand of them laying side by side to equal an inch.

Did you also know something this small could cost you hundreds in energy bills?

But that’s not all, pollen clogging your air filter can lead to:

  • Increased system wear
  • Reduced cooling performance
  • Extra stress on blower motors and coils
  • More frequent breakdowns during summer

Spring is a great litmus test before the real southern heat arrives. If your system is already struggling during these (mostly) mild temperatures, then it will have a harder time when July and August roll around.

Know the Signs of a Struggling HVAC

While the peak of allergy season is around late May, it’s important to know the signs of a struggling HVAC.

Here’s a few things homeowners commonly notice during allergy season if their system is beginning to lag:

  • More dust around vents and furniture
  • Weak airflow in certain rooms
  • Allergy symptoms that feel worse indoors
  • The AC running for long periods
  • Musty smells when the system kicks on
  • Uneven temperatures throughout the house

These signs can point to your system not running properly, and means your system can benefit from inspection, cleaning, or even a simple filter replacement.

Small Steps Make a Big Difference

The good news is that improving indoor comfort during pollen season usually doesn’t require anything dramatic.

Replacing air filters regularly, keeping vents unobstructed, and scheduling seasonal HVAC maintenance can go a long way toward helping your system perform efficiently.

Most importantly, paying attention to how your house feels during allergy season can tell you a lot about how your HVAC system is performing overall.

Much like you: your system has an aversion to pollen, and knowing the signs (and how to fix it) can ensure your HVAC and you are breathing freely and have a safe-space from the pollen-ridden outdoors!

Is Your System Haunted? It’s Not Ghouls, It’s Your HVAC!

Just ahead of Halloween, something strange is happening in your home.

The thermostat is saying one thing, but one bedroom has an otherworldly cold spot… You hear a strange rattle from somewhere in the attic…. The air conditioner or heater seems to turn on and off on a whim…

Then there’s the smell… It’s not the kitchen, the bathroom, the trash, or anything hiding underneath the refrigerator…

Before you dump money on radio interference sensors and infrared cameras to capture what’s haunting your home, give Absolute Heat and Air a call. We may be able to diagnose this ‘ghost’ problem.

The good news: a spirit is probably not haunting your home. But there is a chance your HVAC system does need some attention.

What’s That Smell?

Not every musty or stale smell is supernatural. It can sometimes be due to buildup in your system or ductwork. Because your HVAC system moves air throughout your home, odors from somewhere else in the house can also be carried through the system and become more noticeable when it runs.

However, other smells do deserve a little more attention.

If you notice a burning smell coming from the system, don’t just open a window. Make sure to turn the system off and have it checked out by a professional.

Not every strange smell means something is seriously wrong, but persistent or unusual odors are always worth investigating.

When Something Doesn’t Sound or Feel Right

An unusual noise doesn’t necessarily mean there’s a creature in your house. While it may sound spooky, new or persistent sounds are worth checking out to make sure there isn’t an underlying issue.

Rattling, buzzing, banging, or clicking can have different causes depending on the equipment and where the sound is coming from. A loose component, debris, or another mechanical issue could be responsible. If your system starts making a sound you haven’t heard before, don’t wait for it to become louder to have it checked out.

That same logic applies to changes in performance.

If your system is struggling to maintain the temperature, cycling on and off more frequently than usual, or leaving some rooms warmer or colder, it’s worth checking for underlying issues affecting airflow and system efficiency.

Don’t Wait Until the Haunting Gets Worse

The first cold nights of fall are often when homeowners discover their heating system isn’t working the way it should.

And considering the warmth we’ve seen in August and September, there’s a good chance it’s been sitting unused.

A little preventative maintenance can help identify potential issues before they turn into an unexpected breakdown. So if your system is acting oddly, don’t wait for the problem to get worse.

Don’t Be a Monster: Change Your Air Filter

The scariest thing your system may encounter is a neglected air filter. One of the easiest ways to keep it running properly is to change it regularly.

While it may not be the most exciting home-maintenance task ahead of Halloween (especially when there are Halloween decorations to put up), a dirty filter can restrict airflow and make your system work harder than it needs to.

How often you need to change it depends on your system and household, but generally, every three months is a good rule of thumb.

Your HVAC Shouldn’t Participate in Halloween Fun

Halloween is the season of ghosts and ghouls. While things that go bump in the night are a mainstay of the holiday, your HVAC system shouldn’t be participating in the fun.

A strange noise doesn’t necessarily mean your HVAC system is on its last legs. A bad smell doesn’t mean your house is haunted, and a room that’s too cold doesn’t mean you’re in the presence of spirits. A professional inspection from Absolute Heat and Air can help identify what’s going on before a small issue becomes a much larger one.

Before you assume there’s a ghost in the machine, consider the more likely explanation: it’s the system that needs some attention.

And if it actually is a ghost…

We’ll leave that one to the professionals.

The Cold Wars: How to Bury the Hatchet on Thermostat Battles

Every time winter rolls around… it’s bound to happen…

One person is freezing.

One person is sweating.

Someone ‘just turns it up a couple degrees.’

Someone else turns it right back down.

We’re sorry to say: but your home has entered into what we professionals unofficially call ‘The Thermostat Wars.’

Couples argue. Roommates side-eye each other. Kids sneak adjustments when no one’s looking. Guests politely suffer in silence…

And somehow, everyone is convinced they’re the reasonable one.

We at Absolute Heat and Air have your back if you’re looking to bury the hatchet, and how to keep the peace without running your HVAC system to the ground.

January: Prime Time for Thermostat Drama

In our area, January is when heating systems run the hardest and patience runs the thinnest.

The back-and-forth temperature patterns in our area, dry indoor air, and shorter days all mess with how warm people feel, even if the thermostat says the house is comfortable.

Add multiple people with different preferences, and suddenly the thermostat becomes less of a tool and more of an unwitting bystander to family feuds.

The truth is, most thermostat debacles aren’t about the number on the screen, but a comfort imbalance.

The Biggest Thermostat Myths Fueling the War

Before we start, it’s important to understand a few myths and tall tales when it comes to temperature control:

Cranking the heat won’t warm the house faster. It just makes the system run longer and overshoot the target.
Constant adjustments waste energy.HVAC systems are designed for steady operation, not constant on-off battles.
One “perfect temperature” doesn’t exist.Comfort depends on humidity, airflow, and system health.

Now, it’s time to meet the players of the ‘Thermostat Battles,’ and how to mitigate the damage without turning your home into a winter long cold war.

Couples: Same House, Different Internal Temperatures

It’s a tale as old as time: one partner runs hot, the other is permanently shivering, and both sides think the other is exaggerating.

What’s actually happening:

  • Body composition, circulation, and metabolism all affect how warm someone feels
  • Poor airflow can make one side of the house colder than the other
  • Dry winter air makes rooms feel colder, even at the same temperature
The Fix:

Instead of thermostat tug-of-war, focus on airflow balance, humidity, and consistent system performance. A properly tuned system heats more evenly, which reduces the need for constant adjustments.

Roommates: A Perpetual Cold War

Roommates can bring chaos to thermostat management.

You’ve got:

  • Different schedules
  • Different comfort zones
  • Different ideas of “saving money”

One person cranks the heat. Another turns it down before leaving the house. Someone forgets and leaves it blasting all day.

Nobody wants to pay the bill, but everyone wants to be comfortable.

The Fix:

Set agreed-upon temperature ranges and stop treating the thermostat like a volume knob. A programmable or smart thermostat can lock in schedules and prevent constant manual changes, whether you’re at home or not.

Kids: Small People, Big Thermostat Opinions

Children don’t pay the bills, but if you’re not keeping an eye out… there’s a good chance they will touch the thermostat.

  • They get cold because they’re sitting still.
  • They get hot because they’re running around.
  • They get bored and the thermostat is currently unattended

Parents often respond by constantly adjusting the temperature, which creates wild swings that make the whole house uncomfortable.

The Fix:

Layering beats thermostat changes. So does zoning airflow and keeping vents clear.

Pro tip: If certain rooms are always colder, that’s a system issue: not a kid issue

Tips to End the Thermostat Wars for Good

If your house feels less like a cozy winter reprieve and more like a war room, here’s some tips to consider to help you bury the hatchet:

  • Pick a reasonable range, not a single number
  • Use scheduling instead of manual changes
  • Improve humidity: dry air feels colder
  • Make sure vents aren’t blocked or closed

January: The Best Time to Fix the Root Problem

Thermostat wars usually peak in January because that’s when heating issues become obvious.

Uneven warmth, weak airflow, dirty filters, and minor system problems show themselves fast in cold weather.

A professional HVAC tune-up can:

  • Improve heat distribution
  • Reduce hot and cold spots
  • Lower energy bills
  • Cut down on thermostat fiddling

Which means fewer arguments and a more comfortable home for everyone.

With the right setup and maintenance, your HVAC system can keep couples, roommates, kids, and guests alike, comfortable.

Show Your Heater Some Love (Before It Breaks Your Heart)

Arkansas and Texas just survived a crazy January… With a warm start that turned into an intense cold snap, dumping up to nine inches of snow in some areas.

And with such an unpredictable January, it’s best to keep your HVAC system prepared until spring officially rolls out.

Think of this as a Valentine’s Day reminder for your HVAC system: a little attention now can save you from a freezing house, an emergency repair bill, and a very uncomfortable surprise during the coldest nights of the season.

Here’s how to show your heater some love, while avoiding a heating heartbreak.

Your System Has Been Through a Winter Gauntlet

Between the warm start of the year and the recent winter storm that bottomed the temperature out, your system has been working harder than ever.

Even well-maintained systems can start showing signs of stress after extremes like these

Ignoring small warning signs now is one of the most common reasons homeowners end up with no heat right when they need it most.

5 Signs Your System Needs Some Love

Your heater has been working hard through the recent snow and bitter temperatures: It deserves a little TLC.

Watch for these red flags that mean your system might be asking for attention:

  1. 1
Strange Noises:Banging, rattling, or squealing? That’s your heater crying out for a little love and care.
  2. 2
Uneven Heating:Cold bedrooms or drafty hallways? Your system is feeling neglected.
  3. 3
Short Cycling:Turning on and off too quickly? That’s like a heart racing under stress: Your furnace needs a gentle check-in.
  4. 4
Burning or Musty Smells:You couldn’t ask for a bigger sign. Persistent Odors are the equivalent of your heater sending signals.
  5. 5
Rising Energy Bills:If your wallet is feeling the chill, your heater is working overtime without appreciation.

How to Show Your System some Love

First

Check or replace your air filter. A clean filter improves airflow, reduces strain, and keeps your indoor air quality from plummeting.

Next

Take care of drafty doors and windows. It’s hard to heat a home when the frigid temperatures outdoors are siphoning your warmth away!

Finally

Schedule a maintenance visit. After a storm and intense cold, a technician can:

  • Inspect motors, belts, and electrical connections
  • Measure system performance under load
  • Spot safety hazards before they become emergencies
  • Boost efficiency and reliability for the rest of winter

Don’t Get Dumped by Your HVAC

Nothing ruins a cozy night faster than a heater that quits on you. Show your system some love this February.

Check the filter, schedule a maintenance visit, and make sure it’s ready to keep your home warm for the rest of winter.

A little attention now goes a long way toward avoiding heartbreak later.
